The intern will be trained as a work leader to lead trips to Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands to participate in restoration projects. The intern will assist the Volunteer Coordinator Assistant in the planning of several high school and some college trips for students to participate in restoration projects on the Channel Islands. The intern will lead other restoration trips for local high schools, and any others that are planned. Volunteers will participate in seed collection, watering, nonnative plant removal, and planting native plants. The intern will oversee the work of these groups and will conduct informal interpretation while on the island.
The intern will also provide assistance in the logistical planning for the trips. This may include creating an online calendar, working with restoration ecologists to set up work plans, and coordinating with the instructors to ensure their students are aware of all requirements prior to the trip.
The intern will travel to the islands several times with local high school groups to serve as a work leader. The intern will have the opportunity to participate in restoration on Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands, but may get the opportunity to travel to outer islands if needed.
The intern will also help to coordinate and execute park outreach events.
