Intern will work at the National Parks of NY Harbor – Manhattan Sites. The designated Manhatten Sites include Federal Hall, Castle Clinton, General Grant, Hamilton Grange, St. Paul's Church and TRoosevelt Birthplace.
Position Summary:
The intern will work with the National Parks of New York Harbor’s (NPNH) Director of Communications. Duties will include assisting in capturing video/photos for respective park sites at events or programs being offered; updating park social media sites; and updating park websites. Work involves drafting text/messages, taking photographs, and developing videos. Duties also include developing or editing written promotional material, writing articles for publication, answering inquiries or directing the public.

Weekly Schedule:
Week 1: Orientation to NPS, NPNH, and career opportunities. Introduction to NPNH sites, offices, personnel, and programming. Interns will be engaged through activities representative of the different disciplines, site visits, and presentations by park personnel and other subject matter specialists. Two additional days of training will be scheduled for all the interns, one in July and one in August.
Week 2: Additional training to introduce all NPNH field sites (11 parks and 23 field sites), offices, personnel, and programming.
Weeks 3-5: Focus on External communications, developing marketing products. Become familiar with park website(s), Facebook page(s) and other social media accounts. Take CMS training to be able to edit NPS websites. Prepare draft social media communications for review/approval.
Weeks 6-9: Create social media communications products and marketing outdoor events and programs for park sites. Ensure website is updated as needed and Facebook posts are created, scheduled and managed.
Weeks 10-11: Finalize communication products, organize all data collected or created, ensure access for supervisor and/or staff. Final all remaining work products in progress.
Week 12: Closeout work assignments and return equipment and files.
Ongoing task: Capture video/photos for park sites (Event/Program driven).
Daily task: Update Social Media sites.
Weekly task: Update park Websites
Milestones:
• Completion of communications products and marketing outdoor events/programs for park sites. • Update social media sites and ensure creative, exciting material is posted regularly.
• Update park websites.
Allowance Rates (pre-tax):
- Living Allowance: $600/week
- AmeriCorps Education Award: $1,718 (based upon successful completion of the position).
It is SCA’s policy that all AmeriCorps-required background checks must return cleared results prior to the position’s start; this includes being fingerprinted for the FBI check. Otherwise, the AmeriCorps award will be removed or the position’s start date will be delayed due to non-compliance.
