Visitor Services and Youth Programs Intern (PO-00727960)

This position will develop and deliver original, creative, exploratory Junior Ranger programs for local youth ages 3-12 as part of the park's Junior Ranger and Day Camp series.  These programs will be delivered at the visitor center in Port Alsworth and in local native villages.  Programs are aimed at connecting youth with park stories, experiences, and natural and cultural resources such as wildlife, geology, and archaeology.

This will include sharing knowledge of the park, assisting with trip planning, providing general information, introducing and showing visitors the exhibits, showing films, re-stocking brochure racks & handouts, collecting & recording visitor use statistics, opening and/or closing the visitor center, and selling Alaska Geographic merchandise.  As part of the park's digital outreach efforts the intern will develop a season long social media series to showcase park locations, stories, and recreational opportunities through facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
This position will have the opportunity to get to know the park through personal experiences which will require hiking over rough terrain and in potentially inclement weather, flying in small aircraft, boating on large lakes, and spending time in remote, undeveloped wilderness settings.
