Trail Crew Intern (PO-00735396)

Core program work will include new trail construction and trail maintenance on the Seward Ranger District. Tasks will include digging new trail tread, building trail structures, log out, brushing, drainage, tread rehabilitation, and working with trail volunteers.

Trail crew interns will work with permanent and seasonal staff constructing and maintaining sustainable trails. A variety of power and hand tools such as shovels, pulaskis, saws, and brush cutters may be used for trail work.
For much of the season crews will camp remotely for 8 days at a time digging, maintaining, constructing, or brushing trails. Interns should be comfortable carrying a backpack up to 50lbs, hiking up to 10 miles per day, and camping remotely. Interns will need to bring a positive attitude, be able to work long strenuous days, and be willing to work in inclement (wet and cold) weather.

Compensation Amounts:

  • $1,500 – one time RT travel allowance
  • $300 – weekly living allowance
  • $500 – duty-related reimbursements for boots/travel
  • $256 – monthly housing allowance to pay for USFS bunkhouse costs ($1,024 total – you are expected to use this to budget for your USFS housing which you will pay the USFS for)
  • AmeriCorps eligible ($1,718.25 Education Award)

C.Partner will pay the SCA to provide housing allowance for the member.

Housing in the form of a bunkhouse will be available.  All rooms are double occupancy.  While dormitories may be co-ed, we generally put same sex roommates together.  Dorms include use of the kitchen, living room, bathroom and laundry facilities.
