Trails Intern (PO-00735023)

NOTE: Applicants to the position MUST have previous trail maintenance experience using a variety of hand tools as well as the skills required to work and camp in remote backcountry locations.

This project calls for an intern with existing trail and hand tool experience to support trails management objectives on Sequoia National Forest in the Golden Trout, Monarch, and Jennie Lakes Wilderness Areas, as well as on non-motorized trails in non-wilderness portions of the Forest.  The trails intern will help perform reconnaissance, plan, and coordinate logistics, then work alongside Forest Service trails staff, an SCA trail crew, and volunteers to complete trail projects.

The Forest Service will provide tools, safety and camping equipment, housing, vehicles for transportation to the work sites, and training necessary to safely complete assignments.  This is an excellent opportunity for someone that loves field work and is looking to develop coordination and leadership experience in order to prepare for the wilderness/trails positions that the Forest Service is currently planning to hire.
