This position is a part of the Kenai Peninsula Zone Terrestrial Program of the Chugach National Forest and is based in Girdwood, AK. It is primarily a field-going position, responsibilities include conducting field projects for a variety of natural resource disciplines including botany, ecology, invasive plants, wildlife, and timber. During the field season, your assignments may include wildlife surveys, tree marking for timber sales and service contracts, invasive plant management through mechanical and chemical control, rare plant surveys, and fuels management surveys. This position will assist in managing data collected in the field, entering it into spreadsheets and various Forest Service databases. Other duties include drafting field survey summary reports and utilizing Survey 123, Collector/Field Maps, and ArcGIS. The incumbent must have a valid driver’s license.
Compensation Amounts:
- $1,300 – one time RT travel allowance
- $600 – weekly living allowance ($15 per hour equivalent at 40 hours per week)
- $300 – monthly housing allowance to pay for USFS bunkhouse costs ($1,500 total – you are expected to use this to budget for your USFS housing which you will pay the USFS for)

Housing in the form of a bunkhouse will be available. All rooms are double occupancy. While dormitories may be co-ed, we generally put same sex roommates together. Dorms include use of the kitchen, living room, bathroom and laundry facilities.
