A primary purpose of these positions is to identify bat roosts and make emergence counts of summer cave and structure bat roosts. In addition, participants may perform acoustic transect surveys and stationary acoustic monitoring in association with state and national cooperative efforts to evaluate summer bat populations to assess impacts of White Nose Syndrome (WNS). In addition, participants may provide field support for researchers studying the use of burned and unburned areas of the park by bats, including locating roosts and conducting additional acoustic monitoring. Participants my assist or conduct a variety of other research projects associated with the study and management of bats relating to White Nose Syndrome.
Compensation Details:
- $650 One-time travel allowance
- $600 / week living allowance

Training Provided: The project will provide interns with mentoring and training in techniques that are used to monitor bats and other wildlife of concern to the NPS. The Interns will be mentored by park Resource Mgt. staff
Educational/Recreational Opportunities: A wide variety of recreational opportunities are available in the park including, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, fishing, camping, bicycling. SCA members may also receive the opportunity to participate in monthly Cave Research Foundation expeditions.

Housing at Mammoth Cave will consist of either (a) shared 3-bedroom, 1.5 bath ranch style home. The house
contains a full kitchen, utility area, dining area, living room, mud room/sunroom, one-car carport. Two
bedrooms are single occupancy with one being double occupancy, however, depending upon the occupancy
level the double room could be used as a single room., or (b) one bedroom apartment with two twin beds in
the bedroom, full kitchen, dining/living area, one bathroom. The apartments are part of a four-plex with a closet
midway down the rear of each building...this closet contains a commercial grade washer and dryer.
