Resource Interpretation Interns assist park rangers and volunteers with the park's Shorebird Ecology Ambassador Volunteer Program (SEA-VIP), which educates New Jersey beachgoers about the importance of sharing the shore with the threatened and sensitive beach-nesting birds that call Gateway NRA home. Interns help to staff visitor contact stations throughout Sandy Hook, which features some of the premier swimming beaches in the NYC metropolitan area, and educate beachgoers about the abundance of natural, cultural, and recreational resources within the park. Interns will also have the chance to help deliver education programs, learn about and lead informal and formal interpretive programs, and use photography and social media to share program highlights. The goals for the intern are to learn about park resources, and learn and practice interpretive skills such as audience centered interpretation and dialogic techniques.
