Join us in sharing the story of the ancestral Puebloan people with visitors from all over the world and celebrate Hovenweep's centennial year! Your primary responsibilities will be to staff the Hovenweep visitor center, answering questions and making bookstore and park entrance fee sales (50%); performing trail patrols, hiking and driving unimproved dirt roads in a government vehicle (25%); opportunities to provide interpretive talks and presentations (20%); and assist with other projects (5%). Career development opportunities will be provided as time and interest allows.

Compensation amounts:

  • $1,100 – one time RT travel allowance
  • $300 – weekly living allowance
  • $60- uniform reimsurement
  • Housing provided

Training Provided: Interpretive program development and presentation skills, money handling, and customer service. Other possible training opportunities include CPR/AED and basic search and rescue.

Educational/Recreational Opportunities: Hovenweep National Monument is located within two-hours drive of three National Parks (Canyonlands, Arches, Mesa Verde), three National Monuments (Natural Bridges, Bears Ears, and Canyons of the Ancients) and two Tribal Parks.

Due to the location of the park, staff will need to travel to town to get groceries and such. Staffing is small so staff rarely have same days off.

The housing will be a shared housing unit. You will have your own bedroom (queen size bed, dresser, nightstand, light) and shared living quarters (kitchen, living room, dining room, and bathroom). There are basic kitchen supplies and a washer and dryer in the house. There is also a separate communal space for the "neighborhood" where satellite TV and a DVD player (with many movies) are provided. There is also free wifi in the employee housing area. Bandwidth is limited because it is shared among all residents, so high-bandwidth activities such as streaming video are prohibited on the shared internet.
