Natural Resource Intern (local candidates only) (PO-00735141)

The purpose of the Natural Resource Intern position is to assist Texas A&M Forest Service- Conroe District with program delivery, landowner assistance, natural resource management, and conservation education.  The intern will be exposed to all aspects of the assigned district's operations.  Opportunities for wildland fire training may be available depending on training schedules.  Interns accountable for real job duties become invested in TFS as an organization and are more likely to seek TFS as an employer upon graduation.

Responsibilities:
-Assist Conservation Education Program Specialist and District Forester with delivery of conservation education outreach programs, landowner assistance, and completing state forest management objectives.
-Accompany district staff on landowner site visits.
-Shadow TFS personnel to get a broad view of agency mission and programs.
-Assist other districts with program delivery as needed.
-Opportunities for wildland fire training may be available depending on training schedules.
-Produce and participate in a close-out presentation for the executive team on the intern experience.
-Working Conditions: A mix of office and field work with occasional travel in state.  Working hours are Monday-Friday: 8AM to 5PM. Flexible hours available if there are conflicts with class schedule.
-Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Required Education: Must be enrolled at a four-year university, community college, or junior college with at least 30 credit hours.
Preferred Education: Preference given to students with a 3.0 or higher GPA.
Required Experience: None

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required Knowledge: Working knowledge of PC-based programs and software.
Required Abilities: Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Abilities: Utilized GIS/GPS programs.
Required Skills: Good oral and written communication skills.

Registrations, Certifications and Licenses:
Required: Valid State of Texas Driver's license
Living Allowance $520 per week
Commuter Allowance $80 per week
This position qualifies for an AmeriCorps Education Award.
