Invasive Species Intern (PO-00734333)

The Refuge complex consists of 3 national wildlife refuges in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho. Teere will be one position each at Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge in Colville, WA and Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge near Cheney, WA. Come join our team to help maintain the health of the refuge for both wildlife and humans alike. The intern will assist with invasive species mapping and control projects.

The Invasive Species Intern will utilize GPS units to navigate to known invasive species occurrences as well as initiate a comprehensive survey of the refuge. Although many of these occurrences have received some control treatments over the years, more remote and hard to access occurrences have not been well documented. The intern will monitor the status of these occurrences, evaluate the efficacy of past treatments, and apply treatments where needed. Monitoring and control will require access by foot to either hand-pull small numbers of individual plants or application of herbicides using a backpack sprayer. Other duties may encompass up to 10 percent of the position.
