This is a 14-week position, with a hopeful start date of 9/14/23.
The Visitor Services intern will staff the visitor center desk providing information to visitors for 40% of their time. The intern will provide both formal and informal interpretation to park visitors for 40% of their time. In addition, the intern will receive cross training experiences 20% of their time. These special work experiences include editing the park website, creating content for social media, giving Night Hike tours, and assisting Natural/Cultural resources staff.
Through this experience, the intern will learn about the Salado Archeological Complex, cliff dwellings, the National Park Service, and the important role public lands play in safeguarding natural and cultural resources. The intern will gain invaluable work experience in a range of duties, from dealing with the public to creating engaging interpretive programs. This professional experience might lead to future career opportunities with the National Park Service and/or other federal land management agencies.
Compensation amounts:
- $1,100 – one time RT travel allowance

Training Provided: The intern will have opportunities for training in interpretation, digital media, accessibly, CPR/First Aid ,and safety. The intern will work closely with experienced staff on a variety of programs and projects related to interpretation.
Educational/Recreational Opportunities: There are a number of excellent cultural resources at the site to learn about the Salado and archeology in the Southwest. Nearby Roosevelt Lake and Tonto National Forest offer opportunities for boating, swimming, hiking, and fishing.
