The National Park Service (NPS) preserves and manages our country's outstanding natural, historical, and recreational resources. Chiricahua National Monument, Coronado National Memorial and Fort Bowie National Historic Site are each unique sites that comprise the Southeast Arizona Group of the NPS. This internship will help ensure that visitors have a meaningful and memorable experience at the parks, school groups will have an outstanding educational experience and outreach efforts to local communities will be increased.
Duties include, but are not limited to, staffing the visitor center desk, greeting and orienting visitors, providing informal interpretation, selling interpretive materials; researching, developing and presenting interpretive programs to the visiting public (guided walks, tours, demonstrations, etc.); conducting environmental education programs at the park and in schools; staffing outreach events in local communities; performing roving trail patrols; working on assigned projects that could include research and interpretive writing.
Strong preference will be given to applicants who are fluent in Spanish.
Compensation amounts:
- $1,100 – one time RT travel allowance
- $375 – weekly living allowance

Training Provided: By working with the Interpretation division and other NPS staff, the SCA intern will gain an understanding of working in a federal land management agency. Training in environmental education and interpretive skills will be provided.
Educational/Recreational Opportunities: Tucson is about 2 hours away and offers many diverse cultural, recreational and educational opportunties. Many other state and local historical and recreational areas are within a day's drive.
