Interpretation and Digital Outreach Internship (PO-00735279)

Come join our seasonal staff at the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site in West Branch, Iowa! Just 10 miles east of Iowa City and the University of Iowa and 50 miles west of the Mississippi River. The 187-acre park preserves the cottage where Herbert Hoover was born in 1874, the Friends Meetinghouse that his family attended for Quaker worship, a replica of the blacksmith shop his father operated, and several beautiful historic homes. A restored 81-acre tallgrass prairie with walking trails is also featured.

Duties Include:
-Staff the park information desk and visitor center (30%).
-Develop and present short formal interpretive programs for community events (10%).
-Provide roving interpretation on topics ranging from Hoover to prairie ecology (20%).
-Create social media outreach opportunities for the park (40%).

The work week will be 5 days, 8 hours per day, and will include holiday and weekend work. This position is ideal for outgoing individuals or those looking to obtain the skills needed for a career in the visitor services and education sector.

Compensation Details: 
$460/week* Living Allowance
$1,100* To/From Travel Allowance, paid once with first paycheck 
Housing provided on-site

Training Provided: CPR/First Aid, basics of interpretation, special event planning, and on the job training.

Educational/Recreational Opportunities: Serve beside a professional interpretation, education, and visitor services team at Herbert Hoover NHS. Hiking 3-miles of trail in the park. Plenty of recreational opportunities in West Branch and Iowa City.
