Interns will also assist in providing visitor education to Forest users including Wilderness Leave No Trace programs, to help to prevent resource damage and minimize impact on the land. Additional duties include answering phones, responding to emails, and assisting a variety of District personnel with administrative functions. This position is a great introduction to work in the Forest Service as front line team members provide a direct conduit between Forest users and District Staff.
Position Duties include:
- Issuing BWCAW Permits
- Providing Leave-No-Trace education based upon an existing curriculum
- Answering phones and emails
- Supporting district functional areas with administrative duties (printing, copying, filing)
- Selling maps and gift store merchandise
- Providing information related to various permits (special use, gravel, firewood, etc)
- First Aid/CPR
- Leave No Trace Training
- $300/week* Living Allowance
- $1,100* To/From Travel Allowance, paid once with first paycheck
- Housing provided on site
- Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corp (PLC) hiring authority
*All allowances subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.

The Ely/ Kawishiwi Ranger District housing is a modern bunkhouse that has single or two person rooms, a communal kitchen shared by approximately 10 people and 2-3 shared bathrooms in the bunkhouse.
