12 week Fishing Program Intern

This intern will be working alongside a NPS employee to develop and present a variety of fishing programs during their time at Big Thicket. Programs will include 1 free family fishing events, 4 pop-up fishing programs, 2-3 summer school programs, 2-3 paddle programs focused on fishing, 3-4 on-site programs at Freeman Town and 4 programs at Big Thicket for Freeman Town Youth Fishing program.

Living Allowance $300 per week
One-time $1,100.00 relocation travel.

This position qualifies for an AmeriCorps Education Award.

It is SCA’s policy that all AmeriCorps-required background checks must return cleared results prior to the position’s start; this includes being fingerprinted for the FBI check. Otherwise, the AmeriCorps award will be removed or the position’s start date will be delayed due to non-compliance.

Training Provided: During the interns time at Big Thicket, they will get trained on how to lead paddle programs, how to develop programs for the public and any other trainings that are offered to the NPS staff.

Educational/Recreational Opportunities: The intern will be able to learn more about the local area through attending other ranger programs and assisting with resource management projects as needed. There is hiking and paddle opportunities in the local area.

The distance between the house and the work place is 10-15 miles, no public transportation is available.

Housing or Stipend Provided?
A. Partner will provide suitable housing for the member

3 bedroom, shared home in a remote location with mainly dirt country roads to access the house. A/C, laundry facility, full kitchen, furnished, dormitory style rooming. Wi-Fi, and landline provided, no cable. Commute is about 15-20 minutes north of the Visitor Center where CVA will be working. Home is located within the preserve and is about 20-30 minutes from the nearest grocery store. There will be a possibility of roommates during the length of the internship.
