Fisheries Technician Intern (PO-00735610)

This position will assist with the culture of channel catfish for Federal Tribal trust obligations. Duties include spawning and egg collection, egg and sac fry care, feeding and care of juvenile through broodstock channel catfish, and harvest and shipment. Duties will be performed under the direction of the Lead Fish Biologist or Assistant Project Leader (50% of time). Another major duty will be the culture of Central Texas freshwater mussels using in-viva and in-vitro methods, care and feeding of juveniles, and assisting with research efforts. Duties will performed under the direction of the Malacologist (30% of time). The remaining 20% of the candidates time will be spent on facility and grounds maintenance, assisting with the production of the Federally endangered Clear Creek Gambusia, on-station public outreach, and other duties as assigned.

Living Allowance: $400.00 per week
Travel Allowance: $1,100.00 one-time

Training Provided: numerous, including all aspects of operating a warm water fish hatchery.

Educational/Recreational Opportunities: The candidate will have the opportunity to learn all aspects of warm-water fish culture. The candidate will also be exposed to leading edge freshwater mussel research. As the Hatchery sits along the Colorado River, recreational opportunities abound.

The hatchery will supply a RV type trailer (with slide-out) that has all the amenities including internet service. The unit is in great condition and will be professional cleaned prior to the candidate's arrival. The unit is in a secluded location on hatchery that is easily accessible.
