Gunnison Recreation Crew (2 members)
The Gunnison Field Rangers will consist of two members who will perform critical on the ground tasks. The crew members will work in teams to accomplish tasks.

The Field Rangers will participate in a variety of activities focused on the Crested Butte/Gunnison area as well as other areas, which lie within the GMUG National Forests. The following are duties and activities that the member will participate in: 
•    Maintaining and cleaning developed campgrounds, toilets, trailheads and other recreation facilities.
•    Making contact with the visiting public in busy areas and provide information.
•    Sharing conservation messages with our local communities at community events.
•    Conveying information about recreation opportunities to our visitors.
•    Leading participation in our volunteer programs and partner activities.
•    Conducting educational patrols in dispersed recreation areas on motorized and non-motorized routes.
•    This crew requires self-motivated and outgoing individuals that are able to identify opportunities and build and maintain relationships.
•    Implementing the Gunnison Travel Management Plan by restoring non-system routes, installing and maintaining gates / signs, and educating visitors about travel restrictions.
•    Developing interpretive programs to share with the visiting public in busy areas and provide information.
•    Sharing conservation messages with our local communities at community events.
•    Conveying information about recreation opportunities to our visitors.

Compensation amounts:

  • $650 – one time RT travel allowance
  • $300 – weekly living allowance
  • AmeriCorps eligible ($1,718 education award)
  • Housing

Training Provided: The District hosts two weeks of in depth training at the beginning of the crew’s service, this includes first aid, CPR and AED training, Forest Service training such as defensive driving and other technical training, as well as geology, ecology, etc.

Educational/Recreational Opportunities: The Gunnison/Crested Butte area offers an abundance of opportunities to recreate, including motorized and non-motorized opportunities, dryland and over-snow, running and still water. Gunnison is also home of Western Colorado University.

This will allow the member to drive to the area our vehicles are stored so they can start their day there. Also, to explore the area on off time.

Housing will be dormitory housing at Western Colorado University. Then housing will be FS bunkhouse/cabins.
