Teach elementary students the science of Utah's canyon county in a natural setting. You will assist the education team at Canyon Country Outdoor Education (CCOE) in implementing hands-on, place- and curriculum-based programs for K-6 students. You will instruct at a variety of locations in Canyonlands and Arches national parks, on surrounding public lands, and at local schools. You may also have the opportunity to rove busy park trails and interact with junior rangers at Arches National Park Visitor Center. Interns occasionally help out other divisions on an as-needed basis.
This is a great position for applicants with career interests in place-based learning, classroom teaching, or outdoor/environmental education. Applicants must have prior work experience with elementary-age children such as in a classroom, after-school program, or summer camp, etc. and a strong interest in teaching.
Applicants who are the best fit for this position will have:

- Attention to growing as an educator and receiving feedback on teaching and teaching materials.

- A state-issued Drivers License and be at least eighteen years of age.
This position is scheduled to align with Grand County School District's academic year. Time off may be granted over school holidays.
Compensation amounts:
- $1,100 – one time RT travel allowance
- $300 – weekly living allowance
- AmeriCorps eligible ($1,638 education award)

Training Provided: Interns will receive training on teaching children science concepts as well as the cultural and natural history of SE Utah. Moab offers many different educational avenues for those who seek training beyond the NPS.
Educational/Recreational Opportunities: Moab is in the heartland of all things recreational in the high desert, including hiking, biking, climbing, rafting, canoeing, paddle boarding, 4-wheel driving and scenic drives. The La Sal Mountains are nearby along with several national and state parks.

Housing is a shared park apartment or house with, ideally, individually assigned bedrooms. Households may have mixed genders and some doubling in rooms might occur. Basic kitchen dishware/cookware and utensils will be provided. You should bring your own bedding, towels, toiletries, and other needed personal items.
