Developed Recreation Crew (PO-00734998)

Crew will spend the summer working and learning within the Recreation division of the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Crew will perform maintenance tasks at developed and dispersed recreation sites. Maintaining and restoring sites that visitors use for recreational purposes helps to prevent resource damage and minimize impact on the land. Facilities maintenance is a necessary way to minimize sanitation impacts throughout the forest. Crew will educate visitors on Leave No Trace principles that will reduce negative impacts on the Darrington Ranger District. The Crew will spend their summer alongside the Forest Service and they will be exposed to the diverse range of career opportunities within the US Forest Service. 

Assigned duties will include the following:

  1. Maintains sanitary conditions at developed sites and roadside dispersed sites.
  2. Performs basic maintenance task across district recreation sites.
  3. Installs and maintains information boards, travel signs, regulatory signs and other signs associated with recreation sites and safety.
  4. Provides detailed information about recreation opportunities to Forest visitors and explains Forest Service regulations.
  5. Collects visitor use data
  6. Other duties as assigned.

Compensation amounts:
– $1,100- one time RT travel allowance
– $325 weekly living allowance
– Housing on site provided
– AmeriCorps eligible at fulfillment of 12 weeks and 450 hours of service ($1,718 education award)
 Eligible for the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority upon successful completion of position and combination of another position (640hrs minimum of service)

Training Provided: Interns will go through the orientation and training given to seasonal employees on each Ranger District. SCA interns will be mentored by experienced employees on the Ranger District.

Educational/Recreational Opportunities: Mt Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest abounds with outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the year. Nearby Granite Falls (11 miles west) offers restaurants, shops, a library, and other amenities.
