The SCA All Womens Crew in partnership with the Chicago Park District will complete various conservation projects within Chicago Park District natural areas. Activities include using hand and power tools to complete projects such as: trail/park maintenance; habitat restoration; invasive species removal; herbicide application; and leading stewardship days.
Crew member’s work will focus on projects at the following sites: Hegewisch Marsh, Indian Ridge Marsh, Big Marsh, and Steelworkers Park. The crew will also participate in environmental education workshops, certificate trainings and outdoor recreation.
This crew will also participate in a one week camping/conservation work experience with the US Forest Service Urban Connections program. Crew members are expected to attend this USFS Urban Connections Experience. Crew members should expect to be away for 4-6 nights out of state at a US National Forest (within driving distance). Camping equipment will be provided if the crew will be camping, as well as field based meals.
Training Opportunities include: CPR/First Aid; SAWW Training; Basic Urban Forestry Training; Seed collection and processing; Illinois Herbicide Operator License acquisition and training; Chicago Wilderness Prescription Burn Crew Member Training
Schedule: Crew members will be responsible for meeting on site by 7 AM every weekday morning, Monday-Friday.
Compensation: $16.50 per hour (applicable to relevant federal, state, and local taxes).
The team will consist of 3 members and 1 leader. Preference will be given to female-identifying applicants; we welcome cis and trans women, as well as non-binary and gender non-conforming people.
