CDIP Visitor Services and Community Engagement Intern
Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge (MCINWR) is looking for a visitor services individual who has an outgoing personality and enjoys interacting with the public. The position is based out of Rockland, Maine at the Visitor Center which is the headquarters for MCINWR. The Refuge supports nesting species of seabirds such as Atlantic puffins, razorbills, black guillemots, common and Arctic terns, Leach's storm petrels, and common eiders Daily duties include the following: 1. meet and greet visitors who would like to learn about the successful seabird restoration program that the Refuge manages on the nearby off-shore islands, 2. provide programing to visitors and school groups using powerpoint programs, videos, and hands on props with the artificial seabird island located at the visitor center, 3. work closely with the Friend's organization that supports the Refuge and help them with social media posts and public events, 4. coordinate with wildlife biologists and seabird technicians with tern and gull egg surveys, boat bird surveys, and other activities when needed on off-shore Refuge islands. There is no government vehicle provided to get from the residence to the visitor center (work area). Walking or operating a bike could be a safe concerns since a portion of the route is on a highway with significant turns.
Housing or Stipend Provided?
A. Partner will provide suitable housing for the member
Refuge housing will be provided in Rockport, Maine which is less than 5 miles from the visitor center in Rockland, Maine. A personal vehicle is necessary to get to work and enjoy recreational opportunities during non-working hours. No government vehicle will be provided. This is shared housing and another female is currently living in the 2 bedroom 1 bathroom residence. A female candidate for this position is required since another female is already living in the residence.
