The guides will attend occasional community outreach events including festivals and parades to represent the park. Enthusiasm, good customer service skills, public speaking and and the ability to learn in-depth knowledge of the earth sciences, especially geology, are essential to succeed in the position. Guides receive interpretive develop program training, attend sessions about the earth sciences of the cave, education program training, and tour operations training. Applicants must have the mental and physical ability to lead as many as four, 90-minute cave tours each day. The complete tour is almost a mile long.
