This position will be based out of Little Rock, AR and will provide support to ANHC’s stewardship team which manages 79 natural areas across the state of Arkansas. Except for inclement weather days (high heat index values, thunderstorms, etc.) this will be a field going position. Most of the work will be invasive species treatment and fireline installation, but there may be opportunities to help with boundary and trail maintenance, prescribed fire, cedar removal, contractor work evaluation, and other land management activities. One or two days of the position may include assisting ANHC research staff by helping with aquatic or botanical surveys and/or assisting ANHC outreach staff with an event.
Internship will require tasks like hiking in strenuous terrain, using power tools for prolonged periods of time, carrying 4 gallons of liquid in a backpack sprayer.
This position qualifies for an AmeriCorps Education Award.

Training Provided: Our in-house staff can provide unofficial training for trailer towing, herbicide use and safety, ATV/UTV use and safety, small engine equipment use and maintenance (chainsaws, weed trimmers, backpack blowers), and prescribed fire operations and safety.
Educational/Recreational Opportunities: If desired, one day of the internship may be spent with ANHC’s outreach staff by assisting with an interpretive program or outreach event
