ConSERVE NYC: Celebrating Veterans Day on Randall’s Island, Manhattan

Join us as we team up with the Randall’s Island Alliance to celebrate Veterans Day with a ConSERVE NYC project on Randall’s Island!

Randall’s Island is a unique park and recreational space situated at the confluence of the East River, the Harlem River, and Long Island Sound in New York City. Easily accessible from Manhattan, Queens, or the Bronx, the island contains four and a half miles of coastal habitat as well as an apple orchard, oyster gardens, and a working urban farm.

SCA volunteers will work in the Randall’s Island wetlands to remove invasives, mulch pathways, and contruct protective fencing to safeguard native species.

 

WHEN: Saturday, November 8th, 9:30 am to 2:00 pm

WHERE: Randalls Island, 20 Randalls Island, New York, NY 10035. Meet at East Entrance of Icahn Stadium.

WHAT: Volunteers will work in the Randalls Island wetlands to remove invasives, mulch pathways, and contruct protective fencing to safeguard native species.

BRING WITH YOU: Wear long pants and sturdy shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty.

PROVIDED: SCA will provide breakfast and lunch for volunteers as well as work gloves, reusable water bottles, and all project supplies.

DIRECTIONS:

BY PUBLIC TRANSIT: Take 4/5/6 train or Metro North to Harlem-125th Street. Then transfer to M35 toward Wards Island. The bus ride is 9 minutes from 125th Street to Icahn Stadium on Randalls Island. OR walk from Manhattan to Randalls Island via the 103rd Street Footbridge accessible from the East River Esplanade.

SCA leaders in blue shirts will be on site to meet volunteers at the 125th 4/5/6 stop and on the Manhattan side of the 103rd Street Bridge.

BY CAR: From Queens, Manhattan, or the Bronx, take the RFK Bridge to Randalls Island. Free volunteer parking is available on site at Icahn Stadium.

SCHEDULE:

9:30 am: Meet at East Entrance of Icahn Stadium for registration 
10:00 am: Welcome & kick-off
10:30 am – 1:30 pm: PROJECT WORK
1:30 pm – 2:00 pm: Lunch & wrap-up
2:00 pm – 3:00 pm: Optional tour of Randalls Island Farm
