Join the Student Conservation Association (SCA) at the John Heinz Wildlife Refuge for a day of fun projects with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on Saturday, April 27th.

  • Why: To celebrate our Earth, work together to beautify our community, get youth and community members involved.

Details:

  • We will be working on a variety of projects around the Refuge. Something for everyone!
  • Bring water bottle,close toed shoes, rain gear, long pants.
  • Volunteers age 18 and over: To participate in this event we need you to sign a Participant Agreement Form (download below). It will help with registration the morning of the event, if you can review and sign the forms prior to arrival. Please take a moment to print and fill out the form.
  • Volunteers under age 18:  You must bring the Participant Agreement Form, completed by a parent or guardian, to the event (download below)If your parent/guardian accompanies you to the event, you may complete the forms at the work site.) Unaccompanied minors without a completed and signed form will not be permitted to participate in any activities.

Public Transportation

SEPTA’s Route Buses: 37, 115 and 108, Bus stop at 84th St. and Lindbergh Blvd.
(Walk to 86th street for the refuge entrance, welcome center is straight back behind trees look for path in the middle. Do not confuse the welcome center with small cottage to the right!!! )

SEPTA’s Regional Rail Line has a stop at the Eastwick Station. This is several blocks southeast of the Refuge’s Main Entrance at 86th St. and Lindbergh Blvd. (About a 10 minute walk.)

To the John Heinz Visitors Center and main entrance of the refuge:
From the South:
– Traveling on I-95 North, take Exit 10 (on to Rt. 291)
– At the first light, turn left onto Bartram Ave.
– At the fifth light, turn left onto 84th St.
– At the second light, turn left onto Lindbergh Blvd.*

From the North:
-Traveling on I-95 South, take Exit 14 (Bartram Ave.)
– At the 5th light turn right onto 84th Street
-At the second light make a left onto Lindbergh Blvd .*
From City Line, 30th Street, University City Area
-Traveling on I-76 East, stay in left lane after passing the 28th Street Exit
and follow signs for Rte.291 West
– At the light, turn right onto Rte.291 West and go over the Platt Bridge
Stay in the left lane as you come off the bridge-DO NOT go on to I-95 South
After exiting the bridge bear to the right and onto Island Avenue-At the first traffic light turn left onto Bartram Avenue
Go to the first traffic light and turn right onto 84th Street
Go to the second traffic light and turn left onto Lindbergh Blvd.

From the Blue Route (I-476)
-Traveling on I-476 South, stay in the left lane, and follow signs for I-95 North
– Get off Exit 10 of I-95.
– At the first light, turn left onto Bartram Ave.
– At the 5th light, turn left onto 84th St.
– At the second light, turn left onto Lindbergh Blvd. *

* In each case follow Lindbergh Blvd. to first stop sign-refuge entrance on right
