SCA Kansas City’s Earthday Event
Get Your Hands Dirty! Monday, April 22, 2013
In honor and celebration of Earth Day, the Student Conservation Association (SCA) has joined forces with the NASCAR Foundation, UPS, Arbor Day Foundation and its partners for a signature service event at Weston Bend State Park, one of the many wonderful state parks within a short drive from Kansas City. We invite you to join us!
- When: Monday, April 22, 2013; 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM; Registartion at 10am, event to follow at 10:30
- Where: Weston Bend State Park
- What: We will be restoring habitat, including removing invasive species and planting native trees, and refurbishing and maintaining some of this park’s extensive trails.
- Who: SCA, SCA alumni, Parks Staff, the community, NASCAR Foundation, UPS, and Arbor Day Foundation.

- Weston Bend State Park is a haven for hikers, bikers, and camping and because the park is located along the forested Missouri River corridor, it offers excellent bird watching. More than 179 bird species are found within the park, including hawks, balkd eagles, golden eagles, herons, wood ducks, to name just a few.
- Lunch will be provided. Training, tools, materials, and gloves will be provided. Feel free to bring a favorite pair of gloves, if you have them. Volunteers should dress in layers for changing weather, wear long pants and sturdy, closed toe shoes. Event will occur Rain or Shine!
- Parking will be available on-site.
- Volunteers age 18 and over: To participate in this event we need you to sign a Participant Agreement Form (download below). It will help with registration the morning of the event, if you can review and sign the forms prior to arrival. Please take a moment to print and fill out the form.
- Volunteers under age 18: You must bring the Participant Agreement Form, completed by a parent or guardian, to the event (download below). If your parent/guardian accompanies you to the event, you may complete the forms at the work site.) Unaccompanied minors without a completed and signed form will not be permitted to participate in any activities.
