SCA Houston Day of Service in Honor of Veterans Day

Friday, November 8, 2013 - November 8, 2013 8:30 am

Come out and join SCA in Freeport, TX for a day of service in honor of Veterans Day. We’ll be partnering with Brazoria County Parks for an amazing day of service on West Bay Bird Island. Volunteers will plant native marsh grasses, clear debris, and repair signs on this small bird sanctuary in Galveston Bay. The island is an important habitat for migrating birds and serves as nesting ground throughout the year.

When: Friday, November 8th, 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM

Where: Volunteers should meet at San Luis Pass Park near the boat ramp at 14001 County Road 257, Freeport, TX. Free parking is available within the park. From there volunteers will be transported by boat to West Bay Bird Island where the service project will take place.

What: Native marsh grass planting, debris removal, and sign repair

What to bring: Please wear long pants and sturdy shoes. The project will be muddy and wet and so please dress appropriately. It gets chilly on the bay, so layers and rain gear are recommended! SCA will provide water bottles, snacks, and breakfast for all volunteers as well as gloves and other project materials.

Schedule:

8:30 am: Arrive for registration and snacks
9:00 am: Boat leaves for West Bird Bay Island
9:30 am-12:30 pm: PROJECT WORK!
12:30: Boat shuttles back to St Luis Pass
