Come celebrate local history and the accomplishments of the SCA Home Front Youth Corps film crew!
Do you know about the trailblazing contributions that women and people of color made at the Richmond, California shipyards during World War II in Richmond, California?
On April 18, 2009, members of the Home Front Youth Corps in Richmond, California will debut a short film they have made about the “Rosie the Riveter Legacy” and will share their views on how this aspect of history is relevant to their own lives today. The film includes interviews with local “Rosies,”—the women who broke the gender barrier by taking shipyard and manufacturing jobs traditionally held by men—and with Bay Area men of color whose personal stories reveal lesser known aspects of the wartime experience.
The public is welcome to attend (RSVP information below). Photographs documenting the youth crew’s filmmaking process will also be on display, and attendees are welcome to visit the Richmond Museum of History’s other exhibits. The event is free of charge (donations to support the museum will be gladly accepted). Refreshments will be served.
