Northwest Indiana Tree Planting Volunteer Days

Adding Trees to our Canopy!

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is America’s #1 youth conservation service organization. Join SCA and our Northwest Indiana partners in single-day tree planting and care projects throughout the year to help restore our urban canopy!

Want to give back to your community?

SCA is looking for all age volunteers in the Greater Calumet Region to participate in a series of single-day tree planting and care projects throughout the year. These projects provide fun and exciting opportunities for all ages to engage in hands-on service to the land. Young adults and high school students get a taste of being on an SCA crew, while serving their communities. The expected time commitment is one day, 4 hours per day, typically on Saturdays.

Tree planting and care work will include pruning, mulching, watering, and planting of said trees. Historically, the Greater Calumet Region has been plagued with industrialization and lack of thriving green spaces. Join us for these volunteers days to help combat the effects of industrialization and boost our urban canopy. SCA will provide all work tools and equipment for the activities. We encourage all participants to bring masks, and SCA will provide hand sanitizer as well as masks for those that forget.

Fall planting dates will be posted in August! If you have a request for trees, please contact SCA Program Manager Samuel Vergara at [email protected].
