National Public Lands Day events

Celebrate National Public Lands Day with the Student Conservation Association!

Locations: Chicago, Anchorage, Houston, Moab, Seattle, Richmond
 

Chicago:

Join us for a day of volunteer service at Our Lady of Tepeyac Elementary School’s garden space. Volunteers will work to weatherize the garden for a fall season with planting and maintenance. Snacks and lunch provided. Sign up today!

When: Saturday, September 28, 2013 (9am – 1pm)
Where: Our Lady Tepeyac Elementary School, 2235 south Albany St. Chicago, IL 60623
What: Weatherize the gardens for fall season with planting and maintenance.
Why: To get families involved in service, and initiate a network of garden stewards to learn about the joy of gardening.

Anchorage:

Celebrate National Public Lands Day with the BLM in Anchorage!

Come out and join the SCA team for a day of volunteer service at the Campbell Creek Science Center in Anchorage! Volunteers will work on a variety of stewardship projects within the park. Please wear warm clothes and boots! Bring rain gear and gloves if possible. Lunch will be provided for all volunteers. Bring water and snacks as needed.

When: Saturday, September 28, 2013 (8:30am – 1pm)
Where: BLM’s Campbell Creek Science Center, 5600 Science Center Drive Anchorage, AK 99507
What: Weatherize the gardens for fall season with planting and maintenance.

Houston:

Celebrate National Public Lands Day with the City of Houston and SCA!

Come out and join the SCA team for a day of volunteer service at Shady Lane Park in Houston! Volunteers will work on a variety of stewardship projects within the park. Lunch, project materials and gloves will be provided for all volunteers. Please bring water and snacks as needed. !

When: Saturday, September 28, 2013 (9am – 12pm)
Where: Shady Lane Park 10220 Shady Ln, Houston, TX 77093
What: Volunteers will complete a variety of landscape and beautification activities with the park.

Moab, Utah:

Celebrate National Public Lands Day at Arches National Park!

Come out and join the SCA team for a day of volunteer service at Arches National Park! Volunteers will work to clean graffiti from the rocks along trail within the park. Please bring a lunch, water bottle, gloves and sunscreen. A light breakfast, snacks and project materials will be provided.

When: Saturday, September 28, 2013 (9:00am – 4pm)
Where: Meet at Arches National Park visitors center 5 miles north of Moab along Highway 191. Transportation out to individual project sites will be provided by the park.
What: Graffiti Awareness and Clean up

Seattle:

Celebrate National Public Lands Day with the Student Conservation Association!

Join us for a day of volunteer service at Discovery Park in Seattle! Volunteers will work to improve Seattle Park’s trail by installing erosion structure and performing general maintenance. weatherize the garden for a fall season with planting and maintenance. Please wear long pants and work boots and bring your own lunch and snacks and rain gear. Water bottles will be provided for all volunteers.

When: Saturday, September 28, 2013 (10am – 2pm)
Where: Discovery Park, 3801 Discovery Park Blvd, WA 98199.
What: Trail projects

Directions: http://www.seattle.gov/parks/environment/discovparkdirections.htm Once you get to the Discovery Park Visitor Center, follow posted signs and drive another 1.5 miles to the project location. See the attached map for driving directions within the park. Note that there will be a small hike up and down stairs to get to the work site.

Richmond, VA:

Celebrate National Public Lands Day with the Student Conservation Association!

Join us for a day of volunteer service at Pocahontas State Park in Richmond. Volunteers will work to green and clear trails within the park’s 8,000 acres. Snacks and lunch provided. Sign up today!

When: Saturday, October 5th, 2013 (9am – 1pm)
Where: Pocahontas State Park, 10301 State Park Road, Chesterfield, VA
What: Trail cleanup and maintenance
Why: To get families involved in service, and initiate a network of garden stewards to learn about the joy of gardening.
