Join us as we team up with Acterra of Palo Alto to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day through service by participating in a Citizen Science project on the beachfront!
As part of the California King Tides Initiative Citizen Science Program, volunteers will photograph the highest seasonal tides, or “King Tides,” to help document and provide a preview of what we might experience regularly in the future as a result of sea level rise due to climate change. These pictures will help scientists and city planners better plan for future flood risk.
The January 19 King Tides Event includes an easy one-mile recreational walk on the Faber-Laumeister Trail, off of the SF Bay Trail. During the walk, participants will learn about the baylands wildlife and ecology. Along the way, participants will also help take photos documenting the high tides via their smartphones and social media. Participants of all ages, novice photographers as well as professional photographers, are welcome to attend.
