SCA Excelsior AmeriCorps members will be part of an exciting new residential program modeled after the CCC. The program is a collaborative effort between SCA, the NY State Governor’s Office, the NY State Commission on National and Community Service, the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), the NY State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP), the NY State Environmental Facilities Corps (NYSEFC) and the State University of NY (SUNY).
The program will be comprised of 50 members ages 18-25, including vets (18-28), from the state of NY addressing the conservation needs of the state of NY. Members will be housed at the SUNY Morrisville campus and will travel to sites across the state to complete needed stewardship projects, lead large-scale volunteer projects, and act as environmental ambassadors.
In honor of MLK Day, the 50 members and 8 staff of SCA’s Excelsior Corps will complete four different service projects on the campus of Morrisville State College, New York:
- Making available technology to participate in the Free Rice Project
- Writing Letters to Military Veterans
- Creating Valentine’s Day cards for the seniors at the Crouse Community Center
- Making Dog Toys for the Wanders’ Rest Animal Shelter
