Join the Student Conservation Association as we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day through a day of service at Big Thicket National Preserve. In partnership with the National Environmental Education Foundation, SCA will host a series of service projects throughout the Houston area over the next six months. Come and be part of our service kick-off. Friends and family are welcome!
WHEN: Monday, January 19th, 9:30 am to 4:00 pm
WHERE: Big Thick National Preserve, 6102 Farm to Market Road 420, Kountze, TX 77625. Meet at the Visitor Center for registration and welcome. The Visitor Center is located seven miles north of Kountze, Texas on US Highway 69 at the junction of FM 420.
WHAT: Volunteers will work to restore the native Longleaf Pine Tree population through planting and invasive removal.
BRING WITH YOU: Please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, preferably mud, hiking, or work boots. Also please bring a water bottle that can be refilled. SCA will provide snacks and lunch as well as project materials for all volunteers.
