The National Park Service will celebrate the 197th birthday of Frederick Douglass on Saturday, February 14, 2015, with special programs and activities at the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site and partnering locations throughout the historic Anacostia neighborhood.
Join SCA’s partners at the National Park Service to help out on this historic day! The event begins with an “Opening Ceremony” at 10:30 a.m. and from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. there are programs happening in multiple locations around Anacostia. The National Park Service needs volunteers to help monitor programs, orient visitors from shuttle bus stops, and ride the shuttle to give visitors info about where to get off to attend various events. In addition, a volunteer is needed to assist a trip leader with a walking tour of historic Anacostia (keeping the group together) and to help organize groups for house tours.
If you are a good communicator who is not afraid of being out in the cold, NPS needs you! NPS staff will give a comprehensive orientation that morning so you will know exactly what your role is and what messages to communicate out. In addition, handouts with all the necessary information will be available to share with the public.
