Join the Student Conservation Association to commemorate Veterans Day with a Find Your Park Day of Service at Golden Gate National Recreation Area. With the support of American Express and in support of the Find Your Park campaign, SCA is mobilizing volunteers coast to coast to honor the National Park Service Centennial. Join us as we team up with NPS and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy to plant native species and restore trails on Milagra Ridge.
Milagra Ridge has a unique military history. It was both a major base for the Army seacoast defense in World War II and a Nike anti-aircraft missile site in the Cold War era to protect the San Francisco Bay. With growth in military artillery, the use of this area as an army site became unneeded. Now in the hands of National Park Service, Milagra Ridge has been restored to a natural state with a new purpose of being enjoyed by recreational users in harmony with the many plants and animals that reside there.
Join us on Milagra Ridge as we unite in service with a planting-day “kick-off,” to restore a brand new trail to become an added piece of the existing Bay Area Ridge Trail.
Free lunch and t-shirts will be provided for all volunteers! Groups welcome!
