Join SCA to commemorate the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance at Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens, in Northeast Washington, DC. With the support of American Express and in support of the Find Your Park campaign, SCA is mobilizing volunteers coast to coast to help our parks prepare for the National Park Service Centennial in August.

Located only a few miles from the Nation’s Capitol, Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens is home to the only remaining tidal marsh in DC, and is famous for its breathtaking historic water lily and lotus ponds. The Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens will also be in attendance to assist with projects and share their in-depth knowledge of the park with volunteers. Join us as we unite in service in the same remarkable way that so many came together following the events of September 11th, 2001.

Free lunch and t-shirts will be provided for all volunteers!

WHEN: SUNDAY, September 11th, 9:30 am to 2:00 pm

WHERE: Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, 1550 Anacostia Ave NE, Washington, DC 20019. Kick-off will take place at the field near the Visitor Center.

A free volunteer shuttle will depart from the Deanwood Metro Station (Orange line) in the morning and return volunteers to the station following the event. SCA leaders will meet volunteers at the Kiss and Ride metro exit. Please plan to be at the metro meet-up spot by 9:00am.

WHAT: Volunteers will work to prepare the gardens for the fall season by removing lotus, clearing invasives, preparing the greenhouse, and more.

BRING WITH YOU: Please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes and bring a reusable water bottle. The event will take place rain or shine so please dress for the weather!

PROVIDED: SCA will provide morning coffee and free lunch for all volunteers, as well as work gloves and free Find Your Park t-shirts!
