On April 22nd, SCA Massachusetts AmeriCorps members will be hosting 90 K-3rd grade students from the local area. Students will be on site at the Kenneth Dubuque State Forest in Hawley, Massachusetts from 9am until 4pm. While there, students will be broken into groups and will rotate through various learning stations with Corps members. They will be learning about habitats, animals, wilderness survival, and seasons. Students will also get a chance to investigate the pond on site and learn about water pollution. SCA will have 26 members running a total of 8 stations, and there will also be environmental-themed skits happening throughout the day!
SCA Massachusetts AmeriCorps has been hosting Hawley Nature Days for a number of years during schools’ April vacation week in Massachusetts. There is no charge for students who sign up, although space is limited. The program hosts younger students on Tuesday and Wednesday and older students on Thursday and Friday. SCA partners with AmeriCorps, Massachusetts Service Alliance, and the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation.
