Join SCA for our July ConSERVE NYC event at the Queens Botanical Garden!
The Queens Botanical Garden is an urban oasis where people, plants, and cultures meet. The garden’s 39 acres include wetlands, meadows, a rose garden, a pinetum, an apple orchard, and an urban farm. The Visitor & Administration Center — the first public building in New York City to earn Platinum LEED Certification — includes a rainwater collection system and an extensive green roof that are open for tours.
Volunteers will work on the Urban Farm and in the Parking Garden to pull weeds, mulch beds, and improve green infrastructure systems such as bioswales and permeable pavers that help to capture stormwater and conserve natural resources.
WHEN: Saturday, July 26th, 9:30 am to 2:00 pm
WHERE: Queens Botanical Garden, 43-50 Main Street, Queens, NY 11355. Meet on the Terrace in front of the Visitor & Administration Center.
WHAT: Weeding, mulching, and improving green infrastructure systems around the garden.
BRING WITH YOU: Please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
PROVIDED: SCA will provide breakfast and lunch for volunteers as well as work gloves, reusable water bottles, and all project supplies.

SCHEDULE:
9:30 am: All volunteers arrive for registration
10:00 am: Welcome and kick-off
10:30 am – 1:30 pm: PROJECT WORK
1:30 pm: Lunch and closing
DIRECTIONS:
If coming by public transit, take the 7 train to Main Street/Flushing. Then walk or take the Q44 or Q20 bus eight blocks south to the Main Street entrance. If coming by car, use the Dahlia Avenue entrance and park in the Parking Garden. Parking and admission is free for volunteers.
