Join SCA and Union Bank to help restore Chino Hills State Park near Riverside in the Santa Ana Canyon. We’ll be working to restore the Park by removing non-native plant species that were introduced and spread primarily by sheep and cattle ranching over the past several hundred years. Register online now.
The most aggressive of these non-native plants include mustard and thistle. The prickly thistle often grows to seven feet tall and its broad leaves choke out access to the sun and rain for native plants while blocking access to water for wildlife. A recent fire has caused a resurgence of this difficult-to-eradicate weed.
Projects at the location will include:
- Removal of pervasive and aggressive non-native species mustard and thistle
- Removal of rock debris to lay groundwork for landscaped area and native plantings
- Creation and installation of critter exclusion devices to protect native plantings
