9.11 Service & Remembrance in Washington, DC

Join the Student Conservation Association and our AmeriCorps partners to commemorate September 11th through a day of hands-on service.  

Roaches Run Waterfowl Sanctuary is located along the southeast side of George Washington Memorial Parkway and is important habitat for migrating waterfowl. SCA is joining up with National Park Service staff at George Washington Memorial Parkway for an afternoon of shoreline restoration. Volunteers will help to restore this lake shore ecosystem by removing  invasive species, planting native wetland species and cleaning trash and debris from the shoreline.  

WHEN: Thursday, September 11th, 11:30 am to 4:00 pm

WHERE: Roaches Run Waterfowl Sanctuary along the George Washington Memorial Parkway in Arlington, VA. If taking public transportation please plan to meet an SCA representative at the Crystal City metro station (yellow/blue line) by 11am. Public parking is available at Roaches Run parking area. The parking area is located across the street from Gravelly Point Park and can be accessed by traveling on GW Parkway South. 

WHAT: Help to restore the lake shore ecosystem by removing invasive species, planting native wetland species, and clearing trash and debris from the shoreline.  

BRING WITH YOU: Please wear long pants and sturdy, closed-toe shoes.

PROVIDED: SCA will provide lunch and water all for volunteers as well as work gloves and all project supplies.
