What: Removing invasive species
When: January 30, 9 am to 11 am approx.
Where: University of Florida Nursery (directions below)
What to bring: a bucket, if you have one. Please wear loose fitting clothes for working outside.
Extras: Restrooms may not be available at the site, so plan accordinglyl Following the roundup, a celebration festival will be held at Citizen’s Park located in the 1100 block of NE 14th Street, 32601 until 1:00 PM, with food, live entertainment, guest speakers, and a drawing for great prizes.
From the City of Gainesville website: “The Air potato (Dioscorea bulbifera), is a non-native vine that jeopardizes Florida’s natural communities by engulfing native vegetation. The rapid-growing vine produces aerial tubers (hence the common name “air potato”) that fall to the ground in the late fall and winter and produce new vines that sprout in the spring.”
