North Cascades has 684,000 acres of rugged mountains stretching to the Canadian border. The Park is a climbers paradise and a backpackers delight. There are over 300 glaciers and thousands of waterfalls. Vegetation is thick and diverse with over 1,600 species competing for survival.
This week-long work trip (August 14-21) is open to SCA alumni, and their friends and family, with a minimum age of 18 and no upper limit. No previous trailwork expereince is necessary, but a certain level of physical fitness is expected from participants
This will be a front-country based crew working on various tasks around the park: renovating a campground on Diablo Lake and sherpa-packing plants up to Cascade Pass. You will be tent camping and spending one day on a recreation trip set up by the park.
SCA will provide group camping gear such as tents, cooking gear, food, etc. The 8 person crew will be led by two experienced SCA crew leaders, who will have spent the previous month leading a high school crew in another part of the Park. Participants will get a glimpse into one of the most beautiful sites in the Cascades.
Be prepared to be fully participatory, both in the work for each day and the work around camp, including sharing cooking and cleaning responsibilities. Comfort with tent camping is a must. If you have past medical issues at elevation, high blood pressure, heart problems, and/or shortness of breath when walking less than 2 miles, or have never backpacked in a mountain environment please consider carefully your participation in this program. Your safety is our number 1 priority.
The cost is $675, and includes group camping gear such as tents, cooking gear, food, etc.
Should you have to cancel, we will be able to refund 75% of your registration fee if you cancel by July 23, but none of your fee if you cancel afterwards.
