VIDEO: Detroit Community Program

A highlight of the Community Program in Detroit supported by Johnson Controls Inc

I have a newfound respect for wildlife and I often find myself picking up trash off the ground and cleaning my block. Not only have I learned important Green values, but I also had tons of fun. I made new friends and connections, and I also went canoeing for the first time. Although the program is ending, I know the SCA will continue to impact my life for a long time.

The Detroit Conservation Leadership Corps (DCLC) program employed 80 Detroit teenagers, for the sixth year, working in groups on various conservation continuing in its partnership with the Greening of Detroit and Johnson Controls, Inc. DCLC members worked throughout Detroit’s city parks, neighborhood green spaces, and land managed by Southeast Michigan land conservancies throughout the region. During the six week program members discovered new parks and other hidden green gems in the city of Detroit and also discovered their own capacity of teamwork, innovative thinking, leadership and environmental stewardship.
