SCA Risk Management Director Steve Smith will co-present Short-Circuit: When Administrative Vision Doesn’t Translate into Field Practices with Outward Bound’s Joshua Cole and Mitsu Iwasaki of the Big City Mountaineers at the annual Wilderness Risk Managers Conference in Boston, MA October 5-7.
Every organization has expectations around the quality and safety of the courses they run, yet every administrator recognizes that these expectations are not always met. This presentation focuses on assessing contradictions between organizational vision and the realities of the field while giving discrete tools to create consistent alignment.
SCA’s Jay Satz will also lead a group discussion on connecting with land managers, highlighting the interconnectivity of the WRMC community and their areas of responsibility for managing public land resources and public access to those lands.
This year’s conference will take place in Boston, MA October 5-7
Since the very first gathering in 1994, the Wilderness Risk Management Conference has grown to be an annual focal point where the leaders in wilderness risk management convene to share practices, challenges, emerging issues, and industry-leading expertise. The conference serves as a unique intersection between field staff, program administrators, insurance representatives, legal counsel, wilderness medicine practitioners, and other stakeholders in outdoor programming.
SCA is proud to be one the co-sponsors of this conference, along with Outward Bound and the National Outdoor Leadership School.
