Last Week of the Season
Welcome to our trail crew – SCA Trail Corps Gabrielle, Miranda, Chad, Ryan, and Alexis. Follow our summer journey as we build mountain bike trails with the Cleveland Metroparks! In our last week of this SCA internship we worked in rerouting a segment of a trail. In a short amount of time we were able to almost reroute about 250 feet of trail and put some drains in the old existing trail. This week, we returned to doing what we started doing when we first got here: digging dirt. It was both challenging and fun. It reminded us of the work we did in the first weeks of summer. The weather also decided to play on us, unexpected rains accompanied us in the last days of work, and more than one of us got soaked.
We also had a chance to serve some community outreach hours by setting up a both at the first ever Clevleand Metroparks Hosted Event – Beer at the Pier. Over 30 mircrobreweries came together along with several outdoor based vendors and community groups including CAMBA (mountain bike association for Northeast Ohio) to raise over $25,000 for the trails! We had a wonderful day sharing a both with the Come Out and Play Cleveland Metroparks Booth. As well as a small adventure to Southeast Ohio to spend the day canoeing and eplore a Rock Bridge!
After three month we dare to say we have successfully completed our internship working for the Cleveland Metroparks. We have learning many life lasting skills; from using shovels and picks, to using circular saws and electric drills. We started the internship cutting branches and digging dirt, then transitioned to carpentry work, and finished by rerouting trails. This internship was a once in a lifetime adventure that we will be telling others our remaining lifetime. Thank you for reading our blogs and have a good end of the summer!
