Another great week to be in the SCA! Hard to believe there is only one week to go. We have finished up the boardwalks in Bedford, and have moved on to Rocky River, where we have a few projects. First, we built a bridge. There was a section of trail in which a culvert was not doing its job properly. So, we dug it up, left the ditch, and built a bridge right overtop- problem solved! We first dug in some massive sills- 6ft long, and 16”x16”. They were milled by the Cleveland Metroparks team, out of white oak, if I recall correctly, and are thought to last at least 80 years. There were also a few drains that we placed in this trail, which were not a problem after becoming experts on them in Hinckley. But we also started a new trail section- a reroute from the current one. The current one was built on flat land, and had acquired water, and became muddy. With no possibility to fix this, we decided to build a new trial on a slope nearby. It was a lot of work, scraping all the soil away to find the clay, cutting down trees, and working in the rain. But with some help from a mini excavator, we managed to get over half way before the week was up. That concludes this weeks episode of “Tales from Cleveland SCA!”
Next blog will be the last blog of the season! Thank you for following our amazing adventure this summer.
