(WASHINGTON D.C.) September 15, 2015 – The Student Conservation Association (SCA), the national leader in youth service and stewardship, today named Barbara Gonzalez-McIntosh as its chief counsel.
Most recently, Gonzalez-McIntosh served as senior vice president and general counsel for the American Humane Association. Prior to that, she held senior leadership positions with the National Wildlife Federation, the League of Conservation Voters, and the Pew Charitable Trusts. Her work has included domestic and international corporate issues, tax-exempt law, governance, campaign finance, lobbying and ethics, fundraising, mergers and acquisitions, and organizational risk assessment functions. She is also an active champion for forging a more diverse conservation community.
“Barbara’s extensive professional experience in the conservation field and her advocacy for inclusivity make her an ideal choice for this position,” states SCA President and CEO Jaime Berman Matyas. “As she brings an accomplished record of crafting effective partnerships with government, NGOs and private sector allies, I am confident Barbara will play a vital role on SCA’s management team.”

Gonzalez-McIntosh is a director of the Alliance for Justice, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring all Americans have the right to secure justice in the courts, and a member and advisor to Rachel’s Network, a women’s organization focused on environmental advocacy, philanthropy, and women’s leadership.
She is based at SCA’s headquarters in Arlington, and lives in Virginia with her husband, sons and dogs.
