This year the company asks Americans “Will You Go Out With Us?”
Last year, when REI chose to close its 149 stores on Black Friday, giving its 12,287 employees a paid day off and urging its customers to spend the day enjoying the great outdoors rather than inside shopping, 170 organizations and over 1.4 million people joined the company in choosing to #optoutside.
This year, as part of their effort to encourage even more people to spend the day engaged in outdoor pursuits with family and friends, REI has launched a website that encourages people to share their plans to #optoutside, and that includes a searchable map of outdoor activities for every zipcode in the U.S.
Here at SCA, we are super excited about this effort to get millions of Americans to spend an extra day of their holiday time getting active in the great outdoors. Many of us plan to share our Black Friday outdoor adventures using REI’s #optoutside hashtag and encourage you to do so as well. Be sure and tag @the_sca if you want to include us in your adventures.
