As a member of the Veterans Fire Corps, I’ve been given the opportuinity to pursue a new career path. As a team member of the Coconino Forest, I’ve had the experience of prescribing burns and thinning trees in the Williams District. The program gives us a lot of independence but also stresses accountability. The team functions well because of our military background and the discipline required to work under stressful situations. I look forward to working in the Coconino District to explore how well other forests uphold safety and quality standards which are expected of the Forest Service.
